Testing the new Huzar 21
A small cruiser from Poland with quality standards

EM-Yachts, with its production facility in Torun north of Warsaw, is putting an end to the cheap image that is all too often attached to Polish products in this country. The 6.10 metre long Huzar 21 is not only full of clever details. The workmanship is also top-notch and the sailing characteristics are also impressive. But all this comes at a price.

You have to put a hefty 30,000 euros on the table for the newcomer from the East with its clear sailing equipment. You can get a lot more boat for your money elsewhere. However, the shipyard does not want to define itself by its price. Instead, the boats should score points for their quality and performance.

The Huzar 30 was the shipyard's first boat to epitomise this claim. Now its little sister has to prove what the constructors, designers and boat builders in Poland are capable of. The result is impressive.

During the test, the Huzar 21 turned out to be a beginner-friendly touring boat that can also be sailed in a sporty manner. Good ergonomics, a well thought-out deck layout and a rig concept that is highly unusual for this size of boat make it possible.

The designers' ingenuity continues below deck. There are an astonishing number of detailed solutions to be discovered in a confined space that are neither commonplace nor cheaply made.

If you want to find out more about this exciting boat, you can now find the detailed test report in the new YACHT (issue 2/09, available from newsagents now).
